BioRefinery – complete material usage of forestry waste

This project aimed at the complete material utilization of ligneous biomass

This project aimed at the complete material utilization of ligneous biomass.
Different ligneous feed stocks were analyzed and different material flows attained by chemical, physical and microbial methods, leading to economically usable products.
This cascade utilization of forestry waste led to the production of different materials, including itaconic acid (for acrylic glass), lignins, N-modified lignins (as fertilizers) and nano cellulose (for aero gels, nano paper, coatings…)
The project is funded by FFG and developed in cooperation with the University of Life Sciences and the Technologisches Dienstleistungszentrum Ennstal (TDZ). The project ran from 2012 to 2014.
