Greenhouse Gas Inventory: Reduction of carbon intensity

OMV, an integrated, international oil and gas company, desired to obtain detailed knowledge of the group’s greenhouse gas emissions, covering the entire business chain and the whole life cycle.

What has been done?

This project started in 2002 and was updated on an annual basis until the year 2008, when the model was handed over to OMV for further use.

The inventory was performed using the international accepted standard “Greenhouse Gas Protocol” (http://www.ghgprotocol.org/) was at last successfully certified by KPMG.

 

 

What was the concrete benefit?

The all-embracing analysis provided OMV with a sound basis for strategic decision making towards a reduction of the carbon intensity of both, OMV’s production processes and OMV’s products.

The project resulted in the generation of a model which was used by OMV for strategic and financial analysis of business activities.
