Being a pharmaceutical company, it is hard to imagine how environmental protection and everyday operation can exist together in harmony.
The site has produced APIs for the generic market since 1991 first under the name of Phylaxia then SKW. In 1998, the plant was acquired by Alpharma. The new owner – after having significantly invested in the plant – has developed the Budapest site to an international API producer supplying almost all big pharma companies. With the new name – Xellia – development has not ceased, currently we are working to launch several APIs on the market.
What was the challenge?
Being a pharmaceutical company, it is hard to imagine how environmental protection and everyday operation can exist together in harmony. Our objective is to minimize the environmental impact while we produce the highest possible quality products compliant to the GMP (Good Manufacturing Product) in accordance with the requirements of BAT (Best Available Technology).
What has been done?
With the continuous and effective help and instructions from Eszter Sólyom of Denkstatt we could harmonize the requirements of BAT, ISO 14001 and GMP. During the set up of the system we created a a harmonious relationship between the old and new regulation which help our everyday operation. Our employees do not regard the system as a plus administrative burden, but as a helpful tool in their everyday work.
What was the concrete benefit?
Our Environmental Management System that has been used in the past several years is only a frame, as the set up and the certification was our own idea. By doing this, our company sware an oath on continuously improving and developing environmental features.
As a sign of the effectivity of the system and our satisfaction with the builders, we have been asking Densktatt to perform our inner audits since the beginning.
Feedback of Xellia Pharmaceuticals
